We need your help to keep the KWE online. Jim Doppelhammer, our longtime webhost, has passed away and his webserver will go offline in 2025. The entire KWE website must be migrated to a modern server platform before then. If you value this resource and want to honor our veterans by keeping their stories online after 2024, please donate now. For more information, click here.

This memorial is located at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetary in Exeter. It consists of a 65' arch, 12 1/2" high, weighing over 90 tons. There are seven panels which are 6' wide; one each for the Army, Airforce, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, the Korean War Veterans of Rhode Island (KWVRI) logo, and the center panel is the map of Korea, highlighting many of the historical points of battle. The seven panels are connected by a series of arches which are inscribed with the sentiment "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE". At the two end columns, black granite has been engraved with 44 images of actual R.I. veterans along with the images of weapons and transportation utilized during the Korean War.
