When I first arrived at H Company, the regiment was in reserve. And what
you do in reserve is go out and perform field problems. This is Lt. William
Connelly, H Company CO and me at such an endeavor. It was late August
and it was pretty hot. This is the officer who sent me out to Charlie Outpost
to "get some experience". He was an OCS officer and he didnít take too
kindly to ROTC officers, of which I was one. He was wounded by artillery fire
at Charlie Outpost and I was elevated to recon officer. Lt. Lester Golden
took the company at this point and did a fine job.
